Template:Animal Link is the name of a hefty pig residing on Outset Island, within The Wind Waker. Owners Abe and Rose alter the name of the pig to the name of the protagonist, defined by the player, as a reward for its capture.

Biography

Link's physical appearance depends upon the situation of small pigs captured and brought to Rosa. Specific coloring follows standards of precedence. Regardless of small pigs captured, Link retains the color of the pig with the highest rank. The color ranking system goes as follows: black, pink, spotted, default black. If Link desires a spotted pig, the small spotted pig must be captured exclusively. Pink coloring appears if the pink pig is captured, regardless of the current state of the spotted pig, under the condition that the black pig is not captured. Due to black being the default color, Link will remain ebony if the color is not altered by capturing other pigs, or if the black pig is captured. Link can use the ample pig to dig in dark patches of dirt to unearth a Piece of Heart. To do so, Link must use All-Purpose Bait to lure the pig, and the Power Bracelet to lift it due to its excessive body weight. Akin to other pigs, Link will get angry if sliced with a sword. However, Link will deal three hearts of damage rather than one due to its massive size.

Trivia

  • Characters sharing the name of the game's protagonist were earlier seen in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask; both came in the form of "Link, the Goron".
  • Once Link the pig attacks the young hero, he is impossible to placate unless Link gets away, dies or makes him go into a body of water.
  • Zill and Joel admit to having eaten the other pigs if Link had given them more than one earlier in the game.
  • No matter which color Link is, the Nintendo Gallery will depict him as pink.
  • If no pig is brought, the giant pig will default to solid black. Abe takes special interest in the black pig after Rose tells him they want a pet; it is therefore implied that he catches this pig if Link doesn't get one for him.[1]
