Template:Character Lenzo is the master of picture-taking in The Wind Waker.

Biography

In his earlier days, Lenzo sailed throughout the Great Sea, taking pictures of mystical beings and strange sights, but he has now settled on Windfall Island. Lenzo has been studying pictographs and everything about them ever since he was young, so he possesses knowledge about Picto Boxes that no one else has.[1] He also has a strange hobby of sneaking up behind people when they least expect it. When Link first meets him, Lenzo is reluctant to trust him due to the fact that one of his Picto Boxes was stolen from him[2], and prompts the young hero to leave. However, when Link shows him the Picto Box he found, the pictograph master urges him to look around his gallery upstairs, and even asks him to become his research assistant to develop a box with "incredible pictography capabilities".[3]

After Link helps him with his research material, Lenzo will tell him that he is looking for a color pictograph box, which is capable of taking high quality, color images. If Link brings him a firefly from the Forest Haven, Lenzo will improve the young hero's Picto Box and make it so that it can take color pictures. In The Wind Waker HD, the Forest Firefly is not required; Lenzo gives Link the Picto Box directly after completing all the "research" tasks.[4]

Lenzo also sells Legendary Pictographs, and Link can receive them by paying a fee of just 50 Rupees per photo. Minenco, the woman who has a keen interest in pictography, can be often found discussing the topic with Lenzo.

Theory

Lenzo is possibly Link's grandfather. Upon inspecting a picture of Outset Island in Lenzo's photo gallery, Lenzo states that he once met a young lass a long time ago, and remarks that she is probably quite old. It is possible that he and Link's grandmother fell in love for a short time, and she gave birth to Link's father or mother.[5]

Trivia

  • Lenzo's Japanese name, Genzō, is a pun on the Japanese word for film developing, Template:Japanese. Likewise, his English name is likely a reference to a camera lens.
  • His Japanese title is also a reference to the magic lantern, an early image projector.
  • One of Lenzo's pictographs in his gallery depicts a bunch of ChuChus, this picture was actually taken in an unused room that can still be found with cheat codes.
