Location and Uses
Kite Shields are highly regarded among Rito warriors for its effectiveness and ease of use in aerial combat.[2] The Kite Shield bears a Rito emblem on its face, similar to the Paraglider, albeit without the feathers flanking the wings. Kite Shields are made of wood, and will easily burn if they come into contact with flames or extreme heat.
There are three locations where Link can obtain a Kite Shield. The first is in a metal Treasure Chest in N. Tabantha Snowfield, buried in the ground surrounded by a giant skull. The second location that the Kite Shield can be found is on the northern shore above the second waterfall at Hebra Plunge. It is located inside an ice formation that must be melted in order to access the metallic Treasure Chest containing it. A third Kite Shield can be found mounted on the wall in Selmie's Spot. Link can win it from Selmie by taking on her Shield-Surfing Advanced Course and reaching the goal between 2:05 and 2:20.[3] Afterwards, it will disappear from its mount on her wall and she will offer Link 20 Rupees instead each subsequent time he meets that window of time.[4]

Nomenclature
The Kite Shield receives its name from its resemblance to a kite, as well as its aesthetic relationship to the Paraglider. Despite its name, it does not resemble an actual kite shield, instead more closely resembling an inverted heater shield with a concave chief.
