Template:Character Kilton is a character in Breath of the Wild. A monsters fanatic, he owns the Fang and Bone traveling shop and appears only at night near settlements, selling unique objects such as armor acting as camouflage against specific monsters.
Biography
Kilton is first heard of through rumors told by travelers about a strange shop specializing in monsters set on the left eye of Skull Lake, in Deep Akkala. Hoz, the guard of East Akkala Stable, will also be searching for him, fearing he is up to no good.
When Link investigates said place, he finds Kilton lamenting about the lack of business in such a remote place. He then decides to become a traveling merchant and immediately set off. From then on, Kilton will be found every night from 21 PM to 5 AM near villages, generally in a well-placed spot outside of the settlement so his shop's distinct appearance will be easily noticed. Kilton is never seen moving his shop: if Link is still around after 5 AM, he will stay until talked to, at which time he will bid his farewell and suddenly disappear, to the bewilderment of Link. During the day, the spot Kilton will appear at is marked by a signpost.
When first talked to during the night, Kilton is seen searching for something on the back of his shop, then notices a monster scent, turns around and is startled before recognizing Link.[1] He will then offer to exchange monster parts for Mons (“Exchange for mon.”), or Mons for gear (“Spend some mon!”). The number of Mons depends on the rarity of the monster and range from 1 Mon for Octo Ballons to 150 Mons for Shards of Dragon's Horns.
The gear sold by Kilton depends on the number of Divine Beasts Link freed. At first, Kilton will only propose the cooking material Monster Extract for 9 Mons, the Wooden Mop weapon for 19 Mons and the Bokoblin Mask for 99 Mons. After one Beast, he will add the Spring-Loaded Hammer for 199 Mons and the Moblin Mask for 199 Mons. After two Beasts, he will add the Lizalfos Mask for 299 Mons, the Monster Bridle for 399 Mons and the Monster Saddle for 299 Mons. After the third Beast, he will add the Lynel Mask for 999 Mons. After freeing all four Beasts, Kilton will add the three parts of the Dark Suit, comprised of the Dark Hood for 1,999 Mons and the Dark Tunic and Dark Trousers for 999 Mons each. Each of these wares can be purchased multiple times, with the exception of the Monster Saddle and Monster Bridle, but Kilton will only have one copy of each object during a single night, except for the Monster Extract at 20 copies.
Apart from his merchant activity, Kilton is particularly interested in rare monster's scent, most notably the 40 “stone colossus” (Talus), 40 “forest giants” (Hinox) and 4 “giant sand beasts” (Molduga). After Link defeated the required number of monsters, Kilton will award him the associated Medal of Honor.[2]
Appearance
Kilton is smaller than Link, with an elongated head and dark grey skin and eyes. His lower lip bears two marks imitating fangs, a yellow one on the left and a white one the right. He is mostly bald, with a single, curled tuft of white hair on his forehead, curled mustaches and a beard shaped like five forward-facing horns.
He wears striped shorts, no shoes and a weary shirt ornamented with a skull pin and a big cowl with a big hole to fit the top of his head and two brightly colored buttons sew to imitate monster eyes. He also wears gauntlets imitating scaly and clawed monster arms, and a ring on each ear.
Kilton's shop is a trolley with a big, hot air balloon-shaped ragtag patchwork of brightly colored cloths, crates and buttons, held together by strings and chains. Skulls are displayed on the front of the shop as well as on the back, with colored bags. Inside the booth behind Kilton, some pots, books, a bokoblin mask and a moblin mask are visible. On the center of the trolley is a big glowing purple ball, which added to lanterns make the shop particularly noticeable at night. Additionally, there is a horn on the right side of the trolley playing a distinctive and ominous song.
