A Hrok is an enemy featured in Skyward Sword. They are bird-like enemies residing in Lanayru Desert. They attack by dropping large rocks or boulders on top of Link.

Appearance and Features

Hroks are large majestic birds that spend their day roosting on top of the many dead trees scattered across the Lanayru Desert region. If they spot Link stepping into their territory they will take flight and will attempt to hurt him. They fly at a height that Link's sword cannot reach, making it useless. Link can try to outrun the flying Hrok, but they can fly an extremely large distance from their nest if they want to hurt him.

Hroks attack Link by dropping large boulders on top of him and will continue to drop boulders until they manage to get in a hit. Link can try to avoid this by making sure he is never directly under the Hrok's shadow. In order to defeat a Hrok, he has to use his Beetle to attempt to drop a Bomb on the unsuspecting Hrok while they are roosting on top of their tree, or Link can eventually just shoot them down with one shot from his Bow and Arrows. All Hroks will always drop a Red Rupee worth 20 Rupees when defeated.

Etymology

The Hrok's name likely derives from both the Roc, a mythical bird of enormous size and strength, and a Rock of which is drops in it's attack
