The Green Potion is a recurring potion that is used to replenish Link's Magic Meter in every game that has one from A Link to the Past onward. In all of its appearances, it completely fills the Magic Meter regardless of how much magic is needed. It is generally less expensive than the Red Potion and invariably less expensive than the Blue Potion. As only a minority of Zelda games feature a Magic Meter, the Green Potion appears less often than the Red and Blue Potions.

Appearances

A Link to the Past

In A Link to the Past, Green Potions, also known in this game as the Medicine of Magic,[1][2] can be bought at the Witch’s Hut in northeastern Hyrule for 60 Rupees.

Ocarina of Time

Green Potions in Ocarina of Time can be bought along with Red Potions and various other bottle items at the Medicine Shop, which is found in Hyrule Castle Town when Link is a child and in Kakariko Village when Link is an adult. They cost 30 Rupees. They can also be bought from Business Scrubs in various Secret Grottos around Hyrule, along with Red Potions. As is the practice of Business Scrubs, there's a markup; both potions sell for 40 Rupees apiece.

Majora's Mask

Green Potions in Majora's Mask can be bought at the Trading Post in West Clock Town, and also from Kotake at the Magic Hags' Potion Shop in the Southern Swamp. They cost 30 Rupees at the Trading Post but only 10 at the Magic Hags' Potion Shop. They can also be bought from a Business Scrub in Zora Hall for 40 Rupees, but only while Link is in Zora form.[3][4][5]

The Wind Waker

Green Potions in The Wind Waker can be bought for 10 Rupees at the Chu Jelly Juice Shop on Windfall Island, but are not available at first. Link must first supply Doc Bandam with 15 "glops" of Green Chu Jelly.[6] The way to make Green Potions has apparently been forgotten, as Doc Bandam uses the Green Chu Jelly for research and development and reinvents the Green Potion when he has enough.[7][8] Afterward, Link can get a free Green Potion if he brings Doc Bandam another five glops of Green Chu Jelly.[9]

Twilight Princess

Green Potion does not appear in Twilight Princess, but it is likely the potion or a similar item was planned to exist at some point. Screenshots of the game's beta show a Magic Meter, and Green Chus and Green Chu Jelly exist marginally in the finished game. Allowing a Yellow and a Blue Chu to merge creates a Green Chu from which Link can harvest Green Chu Jelly. As there is no Magic Meter in the final version of Twilight Princess, drinking this does nothing. It has an icon, but no description.

Main article: Stamina Potion

A green-colored potion appears in Skyward Sword, but as that game also lacks a Magic Meter, it is used to replenish Link’s Stamina, which is expended when Link performs feats of athleticism or strength like running up walls or carrying very heavy objects.
