The Giant Columns are structures in Breath of the Wild.[1]

History

The five Giant Columns were created by the Sheikah alongside the Guardians to aid in the battle against Calamity Ganon during the events of the first Great Calamity.[citation needed] Their purpose was to store Guardians and would automatically emerge from below Hyrule Castle upon Calamity Ganon's return to Hyrule.[2]

When Calamity Ganon returned during the events of the second Great Calamity, he took over the columns and all Guardians within them. They have since remained visible above ground around Hyrule Castle in a pentagon-shaped formation.

Features and Overview

Being structures built by the Sheikah, they have a similar appearance to the Sheikah's other creations, such as Ancient Shrines and Sheikah Towers. As such, their surfaces are not naturally scalable by Link, though it is possible to climb them using the protruding patterns as makeshift platforms. Guardians were stored inside the columns and emerged from the constellation points. At the top of each column lies a broken-down Guardian, which all yield an Ancient Material upon examination.
