Gerunes are enemies in Spirit Tracks.[1]

Characteristics

Gerunes are immune to all weapons with the exception of the Sand Wand. Only after stimulating it with the Sand Wand will it stiffen, similar to the way regular sand rises to form solid blocks when the Sand Wand is used. Gerunes will get scared of the Sand Wand's powers, and will begin to dash around the area at high speeds. In their solid form, Link can either destroy them with his Sword or hoist them above his head and throw them. Upon hitting the ground, Gerunes will begin to flake, changing to increasingly darker colors as they receive more damage. After three throws in its solid form, the Gerune will be defeated.

A hardened Gerune can be used to activate Switches to solve puzzles within the Sand Temple.
