The Sword of the Six Sages is a recurring Item in The Legend of Zelda series.[1] The Dusk Claymore goes unnamed in Twilight Princess, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U.

Location and Uses

Twilight Princess

Prior to the events of Twilight Princess, the Six Sages forged the Sword of the Six Sages to execute the Demon King, Ganondorf.[2] When this execution took place, the Six Sages gathered at the Mirror Chamber with Ganondorf in chains. The Sage of Water thrust the Sword of the Six Sages into Ganondorf's chest. However, the attempt was in vain, as the Triforce of Power kept him alive. Ganondorf withdrew the Sword from his body and broke free from his chains to kill the Sage of Water. Even though the Sages banish Ganondorf to the Twilight Realm, he manages to keep the Sword and use it against Link in the final battle. Ganondorf wishes to blot out the light forever with this blade.[3] Link never wields the Sword of the Six Sages in Twilight Princess.

Though it was created by the Six Sages to execute and seal Ganondorf, its holy luster is not powerful enough to prevent Ganondorf from removing it and wielding it after his execution failed due to his possession of the Triforce of Power which the sages were unaware of as they were horrified upon realizing he was its bearer. However despite failing to kill him, it did inflict a glowing wound on Ganondorf that never healed. The wound acts as Dark Beast Ganon and Ganondorf's weak point. During the final sword battle between Link and Ganondorf, Link plunges the Master Sword into the wound which fatally injures Ganondorf due to its Power to Repel Evil.

Breath of the Wild

The Sword of the Six Sages appears in Breath of the Wild as an exclusive amiibo item. It has a rare chance of appearing in a Treasure Chest after scanning the Super Smash Bros. Series Ganondorf amiibo with the amiibo Rune though only after Link has completed at least one of the Divine Beasts. Link can equip the Sword and attack with it. It functions as a two-handed Weapon and its description refers to it as a longsword. Additionally, its sheath is the same one used by Ganondorf in Twilight Princess. It shines with a holy luster that causes it to glow in dark areas such as the Thyphlo Ruins. Link can acquire replacements via using Ganondorf amiibo with the amiibo Rune if breaks or he loses it.

Other Appearances

Super Smash Bros. Series

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Ganondorf shows the Sword during one of his taunts. In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, Ganondorf shows the Sword as a taunt once again. He can also attack with it by using the Warlock Blade, a custom neutral special move that replaces the Warlock Punch.

Trivia

  • While Ganondorf is wielding the sword in Twilight Princess, the color changes from white to a glowing red; while this may be just due to the lighting, its similar coloration in Super Smash Bros. could mean the color change is intentional.
  • Despite being created specifically to seal Ganondorf, the Sword of the Six Sages is shown to be an inferior holy blade when compared to legendary Master Sword, though both weapons end up playing a role in Ganondorf's defeat in Twilight Princess.
