Dark Trains were originally normal trains, but they became possesed, turning them into bomb-shaped trains that intend to crash into Link's train, and explode on contact. However, as intimidating as they may seem, Dark Trains can either be evaded, or temporarily halted by through the use of the cannon attached to the train, but they cannot be outrun, as they are a bit faster than the Spirit Train. They are an instant kill to the Spirit Train if they collide. Fortunately, they operate on a strictly defined path, moving in the direction depicted by the arrows on the Rail Map, and can easily be avoided.

Once Link enters the underwater tracks of the Ocean Realm, Dark Trains that resemble a torpedo begin to appear on the map. These type of trains are called Armored Trains. They pursue Link with greater tenacity than the Dark Trains. Armored Trains are slower than other trains, but they can turn 180 degrees on the tracks at any time.
When two Dark Trains are on a collision course, they will both stop short of colliding and then turn around, rotating on their bases. Dark Trains destroy anything on their path, including enemies like Bullbos, Tanks, and Flaming Boulders. However, they will not explode when hitting anything besides the Spirit Train.

Upon entering the Dark Realm, the last area in Spirit Tracks, Link will need to use the Spirit Train to destroy six Armored Trains with help from the Tears of Light. Tears of Light will increase the speed of the Spirit Train and surround it in an invincible force-field strong enough to destroy Armored Trains.

*When two Dark Trains are on a collision course, they will both stop short of colliding and then turn around. They do this by rotating on their bases. They can also do this to stand guard; when Link is delivering Mega Ice to Goron Village in the Fire Realm, a Dark Train guarding the village will chase him, but then turn back by rotating once he is a certain distance away.
*Dark Trains destroy anything they come in contact with, including enemies like Bullbos, Tanks, and lava rocks. Unlike colliding with the Spirit Train, they will not explode when hitting anything else.

Dark Trains are enemies in Spirit Tracks.

Characteristics and Weaknesses

Dark Trains were originally normal trains that became possesed.[1] They attack by crashing into the Spirit Train, exploding on contact and destroying it with a single hit. Dark Trains can either be evaded or temporarily halted by through the use of the Cannon.

Other Appearances

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, Dark Trains appear on the Spirit Train stage. They ram into the Spirit Train, slowing it down while pushing it towards the edge of the screen. They also appear as a Trophy.

On the Smash stage, they may explode or even leap onto the train. It is possible for fighters to attack and detonate them, creating yet another rail hazard. Random
