Bored-IRC is the current home of the chat rooms for VGRC, ZeldaInformer, Zelda Universe and Khakain.

History

Bored-IRC was spawned by the #bored channel on Gnug-IRC, an IRC server that revolved around the TAUniverse community. After several disagreements over server rules and accusations of censorship, #bored split onto it's own server, dubbed Bored-IRC. As time went on, the server transformed into a small network of servers, operating at irc.twigathy.com, irc.durd.net, and irc.boredicons.com.

In April 2009, when Gnug-IRC was permanently shut down, the remnants of the network moved their operations to Bored-IRC as well, re-uniting the split community once more.

Rooms on Bored-IRC

Gnug-IRC was notable for its hosting of not one, but two of the largest Zelda-related chat rooms in the Zelda fansite community: #zelda, the Zelda Universe chat room, and the slightly smaller #vgrc, the shared chat between VGRC and ZeldaInformer. After Gnug shut down, these two rooms decided it was in their best interests to remain on the same server, and moved to Bored-IRC, where they reside today.

Other notable channels on Bored-IRC include:

  • #zeldainformer - A separate chat room for Zelda Informer to talk about Zelda discussion separately from #vgrc.
  • #bored - The home channel for the network
  • #nowplaying - A hangout founded by luckz for users to spam their nowplaying scripts and chat about music
  • #future - An alternative hangout for some people in #zelda and #vgrc
  • #gnug - The final remnants of the #gnug hangout on Gnug-IRC
  • #cs - I don't know what this one is but it's one of the largest rooms on the server.
