"Champion Daruk's Song" is the second Recovered Memory in The Champions' Ballad DLC Pack for Breath of the Wild.[1]

Overview

"Champion Daruk's Song" is triggered upon completion of the EX Champion Daruk's Song Main Quest, after listening to Kass's recently composed song about the Goron Champion, Daruk.[2] The memory starts as a meeting with Zelda and Daruk as the pair walk through Eldin Canyon.

Daruk agrees to pilot Divine Beast Vah Rudania for Hyrule's fight against the Calamity.[3] Zelda thanks Daruk.[4] He remarks that there has been a significant increase in monsters attacking people,[5] and suggests that Zelda not be outside Hyrule Castle without a horde of Gorons watching out for her.[6] Zelda in turn says Daruk sounds like her father, adding that the King is assigning a knight to follow her around wherever she goes.[7] When she states that the top contender is the most accomplished swordsman in all of Hyrule,[8] Daruk realizes that she is probably talking about Link.[9]

Before Daruk can relay his thoughts however, he spots a group of Bokoblins rushing angrily towards a spot just beside the road.[10] Once he realizes someone is in danger,[11] Daruk tells Zelda to stand back and then charges at the Bokoblins.[12] While Zelda's bodyguards step in front of her to keep her safe, Daruk launches two Bokoblins far away, then dispatches the rest of the group, all with just a few mighty swings of his Boulder Breaker.

As the dust settles and the remaining Bokoblins flee in terror, Daruk laughs triumphantly as Zelda runs up behind him.[13] She then notices what the Bokoblins were attacking: a Hylian Retriever. As Zelda beckons the animal,[14] then gives it some pats and hugs, she congratulates Daruk for saving it.[15] However, she realizes that Daruk is now quivering in fear at the sight of the dog. The dog then barks once at Daruk, who then yelps fearfully and covers himself with his barrier.

A moment later, the group sees the retriever off,[16] and Daruk sheepishly admits that he was chased by Dogs a lot when he was younger,[17] and that the sight of them still makes him panic today.[18] An amused Zelda remarks that "(She) never imagined the Great Daruk would have a weakness".[19] Daruk then sheepishly asks whether or not Calamity Ganon is some kind of dog monster.[20]</ref>Zelda, after staring back at Daruk in astonished silence for a moment, breaks into a giggling fit, which Daruk sheepishly joins in on as the memory ends.
