The Legend of Zelda: The Light of Courage is a series of web animations that were mainly produced by IGN Boards users sexualburgerking, Cellius_18 and orquiox throughout 2005 and 2006. The series was created to parody a script for a film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda animated series that was written by another IGN Boards user, Joe_Cracker, who planned to pitch the script to DIC Entertainment, the company that produced the animated series.
Background
The first of many forum threads promoting the script ("The Legend of Zelda: The Light of Courage - test your Power, Wisdom, and COURAGE", originally titled "The Legend of Zelda: The Light of Courage - A working progress") was posted by Joe_Cracker on September 5, 2003. The first post made for the thread announced his plans for the movie, which included it being based on and using an animation style updated from the animated series, returning most of the cartoon's original voice cast alongside introducing new voice actors for new characters who would be revealed with every ten people who signed a petition to get the movie made and a short film based on The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! titled "Super Mario Bros. Super Mini Movie" that would precede the main feature.[1] The announcement was met with skepticism from other forum posters regarding the film being based on the animated series, which had a mostly negatively reception among fans at the time...[2]
Summary (Script)
The script opens with Link experiencing a nightmare where he fights various monsters from Ganon only to be killed by a cat-like face, which causes him to wake up screaming. Princess Zelda then rushes to his aid and calms him down. The two of them talk for a bit, and Link, not wanting to drink any more of the potion Impa had brewed to help him deal with his nightmares, asks for Zelda to sing him to sleep, which she does. Zelda reports to Impa the next day and discusses the nightmares Link has been having, and she then brings up that Ganon has not appeared in over a year. Impa then travels to the Underworld with Spryte to check on what Ganon may be doing.
Summary (Main Series)
Part 1
Part 1 adapts Act 5 Scene 3, which is when Link and Zelda first encounter Majora's Mask in the script.
The video opens with Majora's Mask, possessing a Stalfos, confronting Link and Zelda in the land of Dochoth, which is represented by a plain lined with erupting volcanoes and palm trees. Zelda asks Link what the Stalfos is wearing, and Link replies that it's only a mask. Majora then retorts that he is more than merely a mask, and Link then attacks with a Sword Beam to no effect, causing Majora to mock the hero for the ineffective attack and forcing the two to flee.
Part 2
Part 2 adapts the majority of Act 4 Scene 2, which is when Link, Zelda and Eian visit Arcadia and meet Prince Facade and Tingle.
