Location and Uses

Ocarina of Time

Link receives Zelda's Letter from the Princess herself in the Castle Courtyard.[2] Zelda's Letter is required to make the Death Mountain Trail Gatekeeper in Kakariko Village open the gate that leads to the Death Mountain Trail. After Link gives the Letter to the Gatekeeper, he will open the gate, which will remain open for the rest of the game.[3]

Spirit Tracks

Princess Zelda gives the letter to Link inside Hyrule Castle along with the Royal Engineer's Certificate in Spirit Tracks. The Letter includes a map of the Castle with a path leading to Princess Zelda's room.
