The Torch Slug is a flame-based mollusk that haunts the catacombs of the Fire Temple in Ocarina of Time and several dungeons in Twilight Princess.

Torch Slugs are invulnerable to most weapons while its flames are lit (although this does not apply when using the Biggoron Sword). The slug will dash towards prey or foe, slamming into them with great force, knocking down creatures of comparable size to itself. Standard weapons, like a sword, can be used to extinguish their protective flame, revealing the gray, weak flesh that is the real body of the slug. Striking again will destory it. Another good tactic In Ocarina of Time is to hit the ground with the Megaton Hammer, which flips the enemy over and simultaneously douses its fire. They are then immobilized and can be killed by simply slashing them. Their signature sound comes from them crawling along the floor, and is identical to that of an idle Like Like.

Twilight Princess

Torch Slugs are found in abundance in the Goron Mines in Twilight Princess and can also be found within the Cave of Ordeals. They often crawl on walls or on the ceiling and threaten to drop down onto Link, potentially knocking him off a ledge and into a pit of lava. While they can be annoying, when pitted against Link's arsenal of weapons they prove to be much weaker than their previous incarnation and can be destroyed with a single hit from any weapon. Their only means of defense is to release a small wave of flames from their body which they seem to do almost randomly rather than when provoked.

Because Torch Slugs are so slow-moving, Link will always have the option to perform the Ending Blow when targeting them, although doing so can be risky, as the reach of his sword will not be adequate to protect him against the slug's fiery attack.
