A pair of Dodongo Snakes are the miniboss of Key Cavern in Link's Awakening. They are defeated in the same manner as the Dodongo from other games; namely by causing them to ingest a number of bombs. This is achieved by throwing a bomb as close to the Dodongo Snake's mouths as possible. Each Dodongo Snake can eat three bombs before being defeated, but be sure to bring enough bombs to finish the job, as leaving will result in having to begin the battle again. They also appear later in the game, in the Face Shrine and the Turtle Rock dungeons. Additionally, a glitch occasionally occurs whereby if you leave the room after killing one Dodongo Snake; the second will have disappeared upon your return.

Trivia

  • When Dodongo Snakes eat a bomb, they will temporarily become slightly greener. It is unknown why this occurs.
  • It is possible that Dodongo Snakes were the inspiration for an enemy in the game Super Paper Mario. Shlurps are eyeless slug-like creatures with large lips, which are damaged by feeding them bombs.
