Link (Goron) or Link of the Gorons

I wanted to move it back, but I prefer to have some feedback first. Link is Link, that his name. "Link of the Gorons" is more of a title fitting for the character box's title section. It's not his name. So, move it back, or do others have a different opinion?IfIHaveTo 07:31, 17 December 2007 (EST)

Well I believe Link is a better suited name.--Green 10:06, 17 December 2007 (EST)
I don't see the problem with the new title. It's a term which he uses himself to distinguish his name from Link's. And surely it's only the same as the difference between Prince Komali and Komali? --Adam 15:50, 17 December 2007 (EST)
There is not a real problem with it. But I kinda hate how people seem to regard Link as the one and only Link and refer to the Goron named Link as Link of the Gorons as to not have to accept him having the same name as the hero. Other than my personal opinion, I have the following to problems as well.
  1. First of all, Link of the Gorons only refers to OOT Goron Link. How about "Mr. Link" from MM? He does not carry that title. Logically, the article should be split if we stick to this name. My two problems with a split are that A.) Any characters in OOT and MM that are each other's counterparts and have the same name are given the same article in this wiki. It would be odd to suddenly "change the rules". B.) This would lead to three articles about a Link: Link, Link of the Gorons and Mr. Link. I personally think that are a little too many Link articles and quite confusing.
  2. Secondly, there are two types of titles. The first is illustrated by Komali's title (Prince). These are official names aknowledged by other characters. Link of the Gorons is a self-appointed title with no value. Having it makes as much sense as changing: Agitha to Princess Agitha, Ganon to Dark Lord/King of Evil/etc Ganon, Mido to Boss Mido or Link to Legendary Hero Link.
These are the two quotes regarding Link's "title":
  1. How could you do this to me? You, you're Ganondorf's servant! Hear my name and tremble! I am Link! Hero of the Gorons!
  2. What? Your name is also Link? Then you must be the legendary Dodongo Buster and Hero, Link! My dad is Darunia... Do you remember him? Dad named me Link after you, because you're so brave! It's a cool name! I really like it! Link, you're a hero to us Gorons! I'm so glad to meet you! Please give me your autograph! Sign it: "To my friend, Link of the Gorons" Oh... I guess it's not a good time to ask you for this... Please help everyone! My dad, Darunia, went to the Fire Temple. A dragon is inside! If we don't hurry up, even my dad will be eaten by the dragon!!
No matter how long I look at these quotes, I can't see "Link of the Gorons" as a real title. He calls himself that on one occasion only, very possibly as a way to distinguish him in the autograph from the one who would write it. It's not a title comparable to Prince (Komali). Point taken about the title; also I'd kind of forgotten about the MM counterpart - can you find any quotes that show his name? I think Link is also referred to as Mr. Link by some other characters in MM... --Adam 18:00, 20 December 2007 (EST)
Well, the whole trick of getting a room in the inn is that by some unbelievable coincidence, there's someone else with the name Link who had reserved a room. That would be that Goron. If Link checks in before he does, he can get his room. This mix-up is never discovered because the Goron calls himself Link-goro (I've heard somewhere that the Gorons in the japanese quotes always put "goro" at the end of their sentences, a custom lost in the translation, except for this instance, where it is necessary. I'd have to check the japanese text dumps to be sure though.). I think all related quotes are:
Link (Goron):
  1. I should have a reservation-goro. The name is Link. Don't you have it-goro? (If Link does not take the reservation for himself)
  2. I made a reservation... The name is Link-goro! (If Link does take the reservation for himself)
Anju:
  1. Mr. Link. Ah! I do have your reservation. Your room is our "Knife Chamber" on the second floor. This is your room key.
  2. Mr. Link-goro? I don't have a reservation under that name. There is one close to that, but...

So, um, what's the current status of this discussion? I'd like to be able to make some improvements to this article, so I kinda would like to know what the title is gonna be. IfIHaveTo 07:36, 25 December 2007 (EST)

I guess in light of the above quotes it should be moved back to the original title of Link (Goron). --Adam 08:34, 25 December 2007 (EST)
Ahem, his name is only Link if you name your character is Link... If you name him something like Darunia, his name will also be Darunia... What I'm suggesting is that this article should be named Darunia's Son. User:RupeeLord/sig 04:42, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
