Beamos
Beamos (ビーモス, Biimosu) are stone statues with rotating heads and a single glaring eye. They will not hesitate to fire an energy beam at anything that makes eye contact with them.
A Link to the Past
Beamos originally appeared in A Link to the Past where they cannot be destroyed and only avoided. They lose track of Link if he hides behind another object.
Link's Awakening
In Link's Awakening they cannot be destroyed, but in addition to avoiding them and hiding behind other objects, their attacks can be reflected with the Mirror Shield.
Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask
In Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, they can be killed with a bomb or two. The heads will explode once the body has been destroyed. It takes two bombs to kill larger Beamos.
Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages
In Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages, Beamos take on the exact same role as they did in Link's Awakening.
The Wind Waker
In The Wind Waker, Beamos react faster, and their beams can send Link flying. They come in two variations: Red ones, which act like normal Beamos, and Blue ones, which have fixed beam paths, blocking Link's path, however, these can be jumped over with the jump attack. The most effective weapons are arrows, and while timing can be difficult, they can also be destroyed with a bomb. However, the glowing ball only appears right before and during the time it is firing its energy beam.
Twilight Princess
In Twilight Princess, they can be defeated by shooting them with the Hero's Bow in the eye or by using a statue possessed by the Dominion Rod to smash them in the Temple of Time. If you are out of arrows, you can also defeat them using a well timed strike from the Ball and Chain. They come in two variations, a larger brown type found in the Goron Mines and minor caves, and a thinner white type for in the Temple of Time.
Phantom Hourglass
Their most recent appearance was in Phantom Hourglass, and they looked quite similar to how they did in A Link to the Past. This variant can be stunned by shooting it in the eye with an arrow or sending a Bombchu after it but is otherwise invincible.
Trivia
- In Ocarina of Time, when you talk to Navi when targeting a Beamos, she says that it doesn't like smoke. This quote is similar to the Old Man's "helpful" hint in the Moon Labyrynth in The Legend of Zelda, where he says that "Dodongo Dislikes Smoke".
