Not to be confused with the Great Plateau Tower Region.

The Great Plateau is a recurring Region in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2][3]

Features and Overview

Breath of the Wild

The Great Plateau was the birthplace of the Hyrule Kingdom.[4] It is a sacred place where rites were once held by the Kingdom,[5] particularly at the Temple of Time. However, during the second Great Calamity, its entrance was destroyed, making travel to and from the Great Plateau impossible for normal people without the use of tools such as Paragliders. After Link's Slumber of Restoration in the Shrine of Resurrection, the only person to be found on it is the Old Man, a mysterious fellow with a deep knowledge of the Sheikah.[6] Though Monsters are not meant to step foot on the sacred Plateau,[5] they have since occupied it. Guardians under Calamity Ganon's control also found their way atop the Plateau, though they are now rendered as immobile Decayed Guardians. The Great Plateau's architecture mirrors that of Hyrule Castle, with the Great Plateau featuring more feminine statues and the Castle featuring more masculine designs.[7]

The Great Plateau undergoes several changes in Master Mode. A White-Maned Lynel occupies the forest north of the Old Man's Cabin and several Treasure Chests appear on platforms held by Sky Octoroks.
