:Hey there, and thanks for your uploads! My absence

So you guys may have noticed that I haven't been in for a while. That's because for the past few days I've been in bed with (what is assumed to be) pneumonia. Woo-hoo!
I'll still be jumping in every now and then to check for vandals and such, but the actual patrolling-of-edits is going to be quite backlogged for a while (unless Adam feels like playing a little catch-up for me? :D). Stay radical. User:Ando/sig 14:39, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I've noticed that. Because I don't own all the Zelda games, therefore meaning that I'm not one to add knowledge to pages, until I actually finish some games and start buying some classics, I usually look at he recent changes too. I've been noticing and saying "Where's Matt and Ando?". You both have been gone. Anyway, I hope you get better soon. User:Seablue254/sig 14:44, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
Hows the pneumonia? Fifth day and counting that you've been backlogged. User:Seablue254/sig 13:00, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
I'm just about completely back on my feet, actually, thanks. I've been dropping in more and more and patrolling a few edits when the time permits. I've been out of bed for longer than two minutes, so that's good. :P I should be back in full action within the next day or so. User:Ando/sig 18:05, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
Awesome. As for me, I've found out i'll be leaving on the morning of the 18th for a good 3-4 days in Pennsylvania. I'll be back on the 21st then. That saddens me though. Knowing I come back on the 21st means i'll only have a week and a half 'till school starts. In case anybody doesn't know, i despise school. Why do they have to take away 7 hours (In my case) that could be spent with family? Thankfully it's a Wednesday, meaning that I only have 3 days until the first weekend. Thanks

I have finally decided to be serious with my Zeldawiki account. I am trying my best to help as much as I can. I was just wondering a few things. Can I upload pictures I have saved to my computer? I tried yesterday with a picture I drew of Majora's Wrath but it didn't work. What is jpg? Apparently the picture was lacking jpg. Thanks. CoreyPotter 16:41, 11 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yes, you can upload pictures from a computer. I'm assuming that you already know the basic process, as it sounds like you've already tried (clicking "upload file" then browsing for the image). Regarding "jpg", it's a type of file. Other image files are "gif", "png", and "bmp". The Wiki software only accepts certain types of images (.png, .gif, .jpg, and .jpeg). To see what type of image you have, right-click the image and select "properties". It will have a field saying "Type of file: [something] image". If the [something] isn't one of the above types, then the image can't be uploaded, and you'll need to save it as a different type.
To do this, simply open the image in an image editor such as Paint. Select "Save as..." and change the file type to an accepted type using the drop-down menu. You can then upload the file.
I hope that I made sense here. ;) User:Ando/sig 16:55, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Some words of Wisdom. First of all, .jpg and .jpeg are the same. They both stand for JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group). A JPEG is really only good for complex images that use up to 256 colors. .gif stands for GIF (Graphics Interchange Format). If you have a moving image, you can only use GIF. GIF can move and store up to 256 colors, making them better than JPEG. Lastly, we have PNG (Portable Network Graphics). This can store transparent images. It also holds thousands of colors, making it better than GIF or JPEG. A format i'd like to see this wiki add is MNG. MNG (Multiple-image Network Grahics) is like PNG but supports animation. Too bad IE and Safari are too lame to support MNG. Another reason to use Firefox :D

File formats from worst to best GIF -> JPEG -> PNG. User:Seablue254/sig 17:32, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

I might add that animated png's are only supported in Firefox 3.User:Mjr162006/sig 22:16, August 11, 2008 (UTC)

PNG, saved properly, is always smaller than GIF. Save a PNG image in 256 colors and it will be equal quality but a smaller size than a GIF image. The only advantage GIF has is animation. The format APNG is better than MNG. APNG displays a still image (the first frame) on browsers, programs, and image previewers that don't support it, whereas MNG just won't show up at all. APNG uses the *.png suffix on files so we'd be able to upload them without having to change the accepted upload formats. A correction to my old statement: APNG is supported in Firfox 3, but MNG is not supported at all.User:Mjr162006/sig 00:28, August 12, 2008 (UTC)

I am very proud! With your help I was able to get my picture on the Wiki, and I figured out how to put it on my page! I'm so happy! Mjora's Wrath looks so mean and purple! Unfortunatley I ruined the picture( the real one ) by trying to draw Majora's Incarnation in the back. Now it looks like fecal matter. Oh well... But thanks so much you guys!CoreyPotter 01:36, 14 August 2008 (UTC)CoreyPotterReply[reply]

Awesome, good job! And also extra points for keeping it on your user page and not trying to add it to the article (since fan art doesn't go on articles). Nice picture, by the way. ;) User:Ando/sig 04:30, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, it's an awesome pic! Just remember to write your text, press enter, type the templates in, press enter, type in the next one, ad so on, so it looks nicer. Good first try though, it was a very small mistake. User:Seablue254/sig 13:54, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Featured Content

Just a reminder. Template:FA/35 is open for the next featured article. We still have to update the script. Don't forget to update the Featured Article schedule. By the way, are we going to have the even-numbered templates like this or like this? I think that including the odd-numbered ones just like a template is better than redirecting. But that is just me.User:Mjr162006/sig 22:16, August 11, 2008 (UTC)

Right. After these past few instances, I've learned to go through the templates to see what's happening first before I decide on one to place the new content. D: Anyway, I believe that the reason I made them redirect was mainly for ease-of-editing - if I see a problem with the current featured content, I go to edit the main page and see which FA / FP template it's calling. Since it redirects, regardless of which of the two templates it is, I always get taken to the one I need to edit. It's just an ease-of-editing thing. It's the quickest way I can think of to getting to the thing I need to edit. User:Ando/sig 22:24, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
I guess that is true. The featured article ones seem to need more editing than the featured images do though. But I think we should changed the featured image templates to be like the last one, FP/33. The option frameless works exactly like thumb does only without a frame. It looks a lot better that way.User:Mjr162006/sig 22:32, August 11, 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, sounds good. We couldn't use "frameless" on images with captions, though; the frame is the only thing displaying them. With "frameless", the caption becomes alt text. User:Ando/sig 03:23, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

But the captions aren't necessary since the whole template is supposed to be describing the image. It is redundant to have captions.User:Mjr162006/sig 03:32, August 12, 2008 (UTC)
Oh! Right, we're talking about featured pictures, not featured articles. Whoops. :P User:Ando/sig 05:05, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Seriousness, and Images

Hey, I'm right beside CoreyPotter and am taking my ZeldaWiki account seriously now. And one way i have noticed in being helpful with the site is by adding images to pages that need them. So if it is not a bother, is it possible to direct me to some pages that are in desperate need of an Image? OH and 99% of the images i upload are not from any site and are one of a kind Screen Captures taken by me and my computer. Thanks a lot and I'm looking forward to helping with the site :) Onyx 01:14, 12 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Check here. It isn't a complete list, but it has a lot.User:Mjr162006/sig 01:19, August 12, 2008 (UTC)
And if you're feeling a little ambitious, hitting "Random Page" and seeing what shows up could have its success as well. User:Ando/sig 03:23, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Permission to create a new page?

Hey Ando, do you think i can create a new (theory) page pertaining to the man who used to live in the house where the well is. Since i have seen a few straight up theory pages, and considering that this one has lots of evidence. Do you think it is possible to make such a page? I'm just wondering cause this theory is really good. It's on the Bongo Bongo. Thanks! Onyx 19:20, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Erm, a theory page? Don't we have one of those? If we don't however, maybe it should be put under a new section in the page Bongo-Bongo. That's where most theories are places (I believe). Either there or your user page... User:Seablue254/sig 19:22, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
I mean like the Great Flood that's a whole page based on a theory but the Bongo-Bongo speculation is already on it's page so it doesn't matter either way i guess. K just wondering! Onyx 19:31, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Well, the Great Flood was an event that occurred in Zelda history. Major events have articles (like the Imprisoning War, etc.). This doesn't strike me as something that would need a whole article. A section on the Bongo-Bongo page, sure, yeah. I'm not even sure what a page about that would be called. :/ "The Man Who Lived in the Kakariko House Who Might be Bongo-Bongo"?? :P
Thanks for asking before making a potentially... controversial? article, though. Much appreciated. ;) User:Ando/sig 03:47, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

I finally check my email, so what was the image you needed me to render? User:MARKOL/sig 22:54, 21 August 2008 (EST)

"Castle Town" Request Completed

Hey! On the Castle Page it requested that someone put up pictures of the entrances of the Dungeons. I completed the request, and i noticed that you can change that page. So maybe if you could, since the request was completed, remove the request from the page? -Onyx 18:51, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hey there, and thanks for your uploads! Unfortunately, as you can see on this page, the request actually ISN'T complete; we still require images for Dodongo's Cavern, the Ice Temple, the Spirit Temple, and Ganon's Castle. Perhaps I should start going through Ocarina of Time again and take some screenshots. :P User:Ando/sig 05:34, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
