Sky Cannon

The Sky Cannon is an enormous and ancient cannon found in Twilight Princess. Its main purpose is sending the messenger who holds the Dominion Rod to the City in the Sky.

Discovery

Link discovers the Sky Cannon after the quest to restore Ilia's memory and find a way to get himself to the heavens, where the third shard of the Twilight Mirror is said to be.

The only way to the City in the Sky is by way of the Sky Cannon, which is unfortunately lying broken and useless underneath Renado's house in Kakariko Village. After moving the Owl Statue and finding the Cannon, Link sends Shad away, who had been researching the area in hopes of finding clues about the Oocca. Right before he leaves though, Shad tells Link that the Cannon appears to be broken, so his best bet is to take it to a cannon expert. Link knows who this is; Fyer, the odd, aging man running the strange cannon business at Lake Hylia. So after Shad leaves, Link has Midna warp him and the Sky Cannon to Lake Hylia. Link goes to speak with Fyer, who immediately notices the huge, ancient cannon. He inquires as to when Link became so enthralled by the cannon rides that he decided to build his own cannon. Fyer asks Link to give him the tour of his rig.

After taking a look at the cannon, Fyer says that he can repair the Sky Cannon for him (maybe), but he asks for an exhausting 300 rupees in advance. Fyer then says he will “only be a minute”, but in fact takes several days. A humorous time lapse shows him repairing the cannon, shown here.

After the repairs are complete, Fyer tells Link he “thinks” it’s working properly. He also apologizes for the rather stiff rupee fee. He tells Link to have all the fun he wants, but he warns Link that although the Sky Cannon looks like junk, it has some “powerful innards” and that Link will be “knocking on the doors of the Heavens”, and that it may be rough.

Link simply uses his Clawshot to enter the Cannon, and a rather frantic Oocoo follows suit. The Cannon blasts Link to the City in the Sky, the sixth dungeon of the game.

An identical Cannon resides at the City in the Sky. It’s purpose is to launch Link back to Hyrule.
