The Thwomp is a stone enemy that first appeared in Link's Awakening. It is a small, one-eyed monster with spikes across its body that usually appears in groups in side-scrolling areas.

Thwomps are based on the recurring enemies of the same name from the Mario series, which first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3. They appear along with Spiked Thwomp and Mega Thwomp variations, although these small varieties are known by the same name as Thwimps in Japan, and as such are based on them rather than their larger cousins. Despite this, their behavior is much more like the bigger variety, as rather than hopping from left to right, they will slam down upon Link whenever he nears them. Not only this, but they will also block his path once they have fallen, and must therefore be avoided by passing underneath them as fast as possible, preferably by dashing with the Pegasus Boots or Pegasus Seeds.
