Zazakku (possibly romanized as Zazak) is the Japanese name of an otherwise unnamed humanoid reptillian enemy in A Link to the Past. Zazakku have two big fangs, a whitish mane, and solid armor that allows them to withstand a few blows from the Master Sword. They appear in certain Dark World dungeons, most prominantly in Thieves' Town, but also in Ganon's Tower. They are intelligent and will often charge at Link to attack. They bear similarity to Daira from The Adventure of Link and Dinolfos from later games, but do not fight with any weaponry. Instead, the Red Zazakku are able to breath fireballs that cannot be stopped with Link's Red Shield; only the Mirror Shield he obtains late in the game can block these powerful attacks. The red variety can also withstand twice as many hits, and so is considerably more dangerous than the blue variety. They usually appear side by side, and often in groups with Stalfos.

Given their appearance in Ganon's Tower and other important areas, they appear to be close followers of Ganon, and presumably Blind. Although they are never seen outside of the dungeons, given their allegiance and the location of their main dungeon, it is possible that they are also thieves.

Ancient Stone Tablets

In Ancient Stone Tablets, Zazakku make a reappearance in Level 8, which takes place in the Mountain Tunnel of Death Mountain. This dungeon is in the Light World, showing that they were not limited only to Ganon's realm of the Dark World.
