ChuChus are jelly-like monsters that appear in many Zelda Games, and are likely relatives of the Buzz Blob enemy from earlier Zelda titles. The ChuChu comes in a wide variety of colours andtypes, including Red, Creen, Blue, Yellow, Purple/Dark, Rock and Spiny. As an enemy, they are relatively simple to beat, a simple slash with the sword is all that is required to take down most varieties.

They first appeared in Majora's Mask. They secrete either hearts or magic, which can be seen inside them.

The Green Chu Chu wobbles after you, in an attempt to damage you. These are one of the weakest enemies in Majora's Mask and can be killed with a slash from the sword. You can even roll into them as a Goron with spikes and destroy them, which is much more fun. They usually have items inside their bellies, which you can take after you have killed them. Bear in mind that these enemies reappear every few seconds, so don't waste your time killing them unless you need magic power.

Red Chu Chus release a heart when killed.

Blue Chu Chus hold nothing inside them, and are only used to freeze. They are found in Great Bay Temple.

Wind Waker

Wind Waker Introduced electrical ChuChu's as well as normal ones. In The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, when you defeat these creatures, you get green, blue, or red Chu jelly. These can be sold for small sums at a shop, or be given to the Jelly Master in the Jelly Shop on Windfall Island.

There are many other variations of Chu than the simple color scheme:

  • Red ChuChus are the lowest form of ChuChu and the easiest to slay. They very rarely attack, but can be tricky in gangs (though rarely forming any more then three at a time).
  • Green ChuChus are cowardly. Besides the regular "Body-slam" attack, they shrink into slimy puddles. Bizarrely, you can still strike them by pressing forward and press "b" to produce a stabbing/upthrust effect.
  • Yellow ChuChus are slightly weaker then Blue ones, not to mention slightly harder to find. Unlike other ChuChus these are the only ones not to drop a single type of jelly, and are often slayed only to find Green jelly inside. Yellow ChuChus have an ability that allows them to produce electricity for short bursts of time. They are found most often in ancient buildings, the Tower of the Gods being one of the most obvious.
  • Pale-blue in colour, this ChuChu is one of the rarest types found. It also drops the rarest type of Chu Jelly, Blue Chu Jelly! The Blue Chu Jelly heals both Magic Power and Hearts! In The Wind Waker, they are electrified and drop Blue Chu Jelly. There is only one Blue Chuchu per island in this game, and they only drop their jelly once. Give the Jelly to the Jelly Guy and get a Blue Potion.
  • Purple ChuChus are occasionally called Shadow ChuChus, Dark ChuChus and even Black ChuChus, though they are, in truth, purple. Purple ChuChus are only harder to find then Blue ChuChus because they tend to live in areas away from direct sunlight, such as the ancient temples, and thus are rarely spotted by any other then the BEST adventurers, or the most determined. Purple ChuChus are considered the worst to deal with, simply because almost any attack is useless. When a Purple ChuChu is attacked with the Hero's Sword, the Hero's Bow or even the Legendary Skull Hammer, they will split apart and reform, as though nothing has happened. The only known way to beat Purple ChuChus is to put them in direct sunlight. They will turn to stone and can then be smashed, destroying them for good. It is rare for Purple ChuChus to drop jelly, but most often they drop Red Chu Jelly, if any at all.

Minish Cap

  • Spiny: Unlike previous incarnations, it is actually black. It appears to have a bizarre defence mechanism that turns it into a wall of spike when you come close. Not the brightest creatures ever, these Chus eventually retract their spikes, leaving them vulnerable.
  • Rock ChuChus, which is really just a Red ChuChu with a stone helmet on, can be destroyed after the destruction of their helmet. This ChuChu has developed some kind of armour. The armour itself is quite birttle and will shatter after a strong attack has hit it. Underneath, they are regular ChuChus after all! It is uncertain, but ChuChus seem to have developed a type of bone structure, considering their ability to lift up solid objects like the Rock Armour.

You can also fight what appear to be giant ChuChus when you are Minish sized, but obviously the ChuChus are just normal ones.

  • A Chuchu was actually a boss for the first dungeon in The Minish Cap. It was actually bigger to Link because he was viewing the Chuchu from the Minish Point of View.

Twilight Princess

Chus are blob-like enemies that appear in Twilight Princess. They appear in five varieties: Purple, Yellow, Red, Blue, Green (only in the Wii version) and Rare. When killed, they will leave behind Chu Jelly of their corresponding color that can be scooped up with a bottle for later. They appear in Lakebed Temple, Hyrule Field, and many other places.

Chus also have the ability to merge together. When attacked they will split into two smaller Chus, and will keep splitting until they are each separate from each other. When two Chus of different colors merge, a Chu of the more common color is created. The only exception to this rule is in the Wii version, where if a Blue Chu and Yellow Chu merge together, they will create a Green Chu. This was most likely an accidental leftover from when the game still had a magic meter. It is very hard to create a Green Chu, and there are few, if not no cases of the two colours meeting, outside the Cave of Ordeals. The order of color dominance is as follows:

1. Purple Chu (Jelly: Random effect)

2. Green Chu (Jelly: Does nothing. Was most likely meant to restore the magic meter, which was removed. Totally nonexistent in the GameCube version of the game.)

3. Yellow Chu (Jelly: Refills Lantern)

4. Red Chu (Jelly: Replenishes 8 hearts)

5. Blue Chu (Jelly: Replenishes all hearts)

6. Rare Chu (Jelly: Replenishes all hearts and increases attack power)
