These fungus species appear in Link's Awakening in the side- scrolling parts of the dungeons. As such, they have limited movement.

They are based on the Goomba character from the Mario games. As an easter egg of sorts, if you eliminate one with the traditional Mario stomp, they yield a heart as a reward.

They also appear in Super Smash Bros Brawl as enemies in The Subspace Emissary.
