Force Gems first appeared in Four Swords Adventures. Throughout each level, found on enemies, under rocks, frozen in ice, and more. The Links need to collect 2000 of them to empower the Four Sword. Once empowered, it can break Vaati's Dark Barrier at the end of each level. They come like Rupees in the game, the size of them and color determines its value. (Such as, getting a small Red Force Gem is more valuable than a small Green Force Gem) Often in levels, there will be an area that allows an opportunity to get many at once, mostly, these are defeating many enemies without being hit. Doing this awards combo points, which will give more Force Gems from defeating the enemies or lose the accumulated points. Beware though, because Tingle is in the game. After Link finds him under a rock, he will come when a big Force Gem or many lie around. He attempts to steal one. Link can throw a rock or enemy at him, but for humor, other Links can be tossed as well.

Force Gem Thieves

• Hinox shakes Force Gems from Link while in his grasp.
• Wizzrobes can continuously drain Force Gems.
• When Link takes significant damage Force Gems will fall from him

Phantom Hourglass

Force Gems return in Phantom Hourglass. They are used in The Temple of the Ocean King and are an integral part of multiplayer Battle Mode. In the temple, they are used to complete a Triforce symbol in the ground that will open a door. The door usually brings Link to a checkpoint in the dungeon. Oshus explains early in the game that the Force Gems are made of Sand of Hours. These are all Gold colored. Link slows down considerably while holding one!

The Battle mode force gems vary in size. The colors are changed during gameplay but the value of points remain the same. The larger it is, the more it is worth and heavier to carry.

Spirit Tracks

File:Gem.png Force gems return in The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks with a more integral role within the story and universe. Force Gems lie within the various temples across Hyrule with the role of powering the Tower of Spirits. After the Tower of Spirits is destroyed, Link must travel to temples and unlock each of of their Force Gems to restore and repair the Tower.

File:Force Gem.png Spirit Tracks can be restored when the citizens of Hyrule feel a great emotion of gratitude, usually when Link helps them out, creating other Force Gems.

The Battle Mode for Spirit Tracks has Link collecting as many Force Gems within the time limit while also trying dodging various traps and attacks from Phantoms and other players.
