R-regrettable... Although my rival, you were spectacular. I shall take my bow by opening my heart and revealing my wisdom... Belief or disbelief rests with you. To die without leaving a corpse... That is the way of us Garo.

The Garo is a race that appeared in Majora's Mask. They are the lingering spirits of an army that once invaded the Ikana Kingdom.

They are summoned by the Garo Mask "Master you called!" in Ikana Canyon, and when not wearing it, Tatl will sense "blood thirst looming around" and she advices you to wear a mask which allows you to see beyond. When Link dons the Garo Mask a Garo Ninja will appear and attack the impostor. Link is rewarded with a bit of information before the Ninja disappears.

— Tatl

As the fight starts, a ring of fire will be cast, preventing escape, they use very sharp swords which can be easily blocked with the shield and render them weaponless and shocked, they aren't much of a threat, and are in there to give out information.

After killing them they will "surrender their wisdom" and explode themselves shortly afterwards saying: "To die without leaving a corpse, that's the way of us Garo"

Garo also have the power to see the player while wearing the stone mask.

The leader of the Garo is the Garo Master, who Link defeats in the Stone Tower Temple. For defeating the Garo Master, Link is rewarded with the Light Arrows.

It is unknown as to the true origin of the Garo. Some believe them to be related to, if not the same as, Subrosians due to resemblance.

Trivia

  • The Poe Salesman bears a fair resemblance to the Garo Ninjas, although he wears purple and has a single, red eye instead of two green ones.
  • Although they appear to be humans with cloaks, Pamela's father in the Musical House claims Garo are empty shells, animated by willpower. This is confirmed when the Garo leave Ikana Canyon with the rest of the ghosts.
