The residents of Outset

Outset Island is located at the southern end of the Great Sea in The Wind Waker. It is home to only a few families, including Link's, which consists of his sister Aryll and their beloved Grandma. On this island, it is customary to garb boys in green when they reach the age of the fabled "legendary hero." True to custom, such was done on Link's birthday, signifying the beginning of his adventure.

Map of Outset

Outset Island consists of two main islands connected by a wooden bridge. Out of the four houses on Outset Island, three of them are situated on the western island. The eastern island has a winding pathway to the summit. At the mountaintop, there is a suspension bridge that connects the two areas. Across the bridge is the Forest of Fairies, where Link rescues Tetra at the beginning of the game. Later, the water spirit Jabun makes his home in the cave at the back of the island. However, the cave is blocked by a large stone that can only be removed by bombs via cannon.

Also hidden on the island is the entrance to the Savage Labyrinth. Like Jabun's cave, this area can only be reached when well into the game, using the fabled power bracelets.

Other Information

Aryll's Lookout

Aryll's Lookout, as named so by Aryll herself, is a tall, stationary crow's nest that was most likely built to spot oncoming ships. Because of Outset's distant location from many other inhabited islands, however, it is mainly used by Link's little sister to play with the gulls. She often uses her telescope to watch over the island denizens.

Ocarina of Time

It is possible that Outset Island is combined of the two islands at Lake Hylia in Ocarina of Time, due to the fact that the island is in the southwest, the same location as Lake Hylia, they both have a wooden bridge connecting them, and the tree on top of the larger island might have grown into the Forest of Fairies. Also, Jabun's cave might have been the entrance to the Water Temple, and Aryll's Lookout might have been a remnant of the Lakeside Laboratory's watchtower
