Critical Hits are a recurring mechanic in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2]

Overview

Breath of the Wild

Critical Hits are strikes that deal twice the normal damage for a weapon. There are three ways to achieve this effect: hitting an enemy's head or eye with an Arrow,[3][1] successfully throwing a weapon at an enemy,[4] and breaking a weapon while striking an enemy.[5] A unique sound effect will play to indicate this: A high-pitch sound when an arrow is shot, and a loud popping sound for any melee weapons.

As well as the above, weapons may be found with a Critical Hit modifier. Executing a combo with these weapons will deal double damage on the final hit.

Sneakstrikes are a similar phenomenon, which deal more damage by stealthily attacking an unaware enemy from behind.
