Mau (マウ) is the Japanese name for an otherwise unnamed enemy in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.
These enemies appear only in certain Palaces and resemble floating versions of the panther-head decorations adorning some of the Palace corridor walls. They float and regularly move up and down, spewing fireballs at Link. They endlessly spawn at certain points of the palace.
