The Freezard (also misspelled Freezzard)[1] is featured in Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess, as a large blocks of living ice capable of producing a piercing, icy breath.
Characteristics and Weaknesses
Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask
A Freezard blows an icy gale straight in front of itself at regular intervals. Upon impact, this freezing breath will encase anything it touches, even Link, in a coating of ice that slowly eats away at one's life energy. These enemies have the ability to disappear and reappear somewhere else as well. To defeat them easily, Link must keep circling them until they blow their freezing breath, then attack them from any side with his sword repeatedly to break them apart and kill them.
Most weapons can defeat a Freezard, but most arrows cannot pierce their thick icy hide. Being composed of ice, they have a natural weakness to heat. To dispatch them quickly and effectively, try a Fire Arrow. The Hookshot will drag Link toward the Freezard, which can be used to close the distance quickly in between blasts of frost, but incautious adventurers could find themselves dragged directly into the blast.
Twilight Princess
Freezards appear as very large "dragon"-like beasts that breathe cold air and are first seen blocking a doorway in the Snowpeak Ruins. Just like their Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask counterparts, the Freezards in Twilight Princess also blow a piercing, icy gale in front of Link whenever he is near. This form can only be defeated by using a cannon and later in the dungeon, the Ball and Chain. When shattered, they break into the much smaller Mini Freezards, each of which appears as a small chunk of ice containing one of the Freezard's many eyes. They can also be found in specific floors in the Cave of Ordeals and caves.
Trivia
- Although there are no such Freezards in The Wind Waker, the entrance to the cavern within Ice Ring Isle not only constantly breathes an icy mist like Freezards do, but its rocky outside surface resembles one as well.
- The Freezards from Twilight Princess somewhat resemble adult Sheegoths from Metroid Prime.
