Guays are recurring enemies in The Legend of Zelda series.[1]
Characteristics
The Guay is a dark, crow-like bird that is commonly seen flying above spacious areas. They flock in places such as deserts, lakes, as well as farm yards, such as the Lon Lon Ranch at night in Ocarina of Time. While the Guay is generally small, Guays seen in Twilight Princess are much larger and slow in flight. These birds are seldom seen alone and are generally always seen in large flocks. Although a lone Guay can be seen flying around the exterior of Clock Town in Majora's Mask.
Guays will hone in on Link and pursue him as long as he is within close proximity. This behavior works to Link's benefit the majority of the time, as the Guay, when defeated, will often drop large quantities of Rupees. Their dives make them easy to defeat with short-range weapons such as the Sword, though they can also just as easily be killed with long-ranged weapons such as the Bow or Boomerang. In Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, they can appear in larger sizes after killing ten standard Guay, sharing this trait with Stalchildren and Leevers.
In Skyward Sword, Guays will attempt to defecate on Link's head. While Link has a Guay's droppings on his head, his Stamina gradually drains. It can be removed by rolling or performing a Spin Attack.
Trivia
- The solitary Guay that flies around Clock Town in Majora's Mask will ignore Link until he plays one of the four Temple songs, at which point it will begin dropping progressively more valuable Rupees.[2]
