Hyrulean Civil War

Ten years before the events of Ocarina of Time, the Dark Interlopers (Twili) attempted to use the Fused Shadows, a creation of theirs that manifested their power, to seize control of the Sacred Realm and the Triforce, causing a massive civil war to break out across Hyrule when the other races discovered that someone was trying to claim the wish-granting Triforce for their own. The Goddesses of Hyrule sent the Light Spirits to seal the Dark Interlopers in the Twilight Realm (and subsequently seal away the Fused Shadows within the Great Deku Tree, the Fire Temple, and the Water Temple), and Ganondorf helped the King of Hyrule unify Hyrule and end the Hyrulean Civil War with the Hylians as the victors. Ganondorf won the King’s trust and learned of the Triforce as a result of this war. The King commanded the Seven Sages to seal the entrance to the Sacred Realm/Golden Land should it become the source of anymore trouble to Hyrule, seeing the tragedy that it had inadvertently caused already. During the course of the war, Link’s mother was injured while trying to escape the fighting and entrusted to the Great Deku Tree the child that would grow up to become the Hero of Time. Link’s mother eventually passed away, and the child was raised as a Kokiri, but without a companion fairy due to his true lineage as a Hylian and child of one of the Knights of Hyrule.
