The sword of the sages was a magical sword of light used by the Sage of Water in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. The sword was thrust into Ganondorf's chest in hopes of executing him. The attempt was in vain thanks to the Triforce of Power in Ganondorf's hand. Taking no harm but a glowing wound in his chest, Ganondorf took the sword and killed the Sage. Ganondorf kept the sword and used it later in the game in the final battle with Link. The sword's shape seems to boast a type of long sword, though its size suggests that it is more of a katana-like blade instead.
It is suspected that in Twilight Princess, Ganondorf continues to carry the Sword of the Sages because he wants the Sages, who attempted to execute him, to see what has been done with their own blade.
(implying that he does not particularly like the sword he is using.)
