The Gibdo has been around since the very first Legend of Zelda game, and has since apeared in several other Zelda's, like A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask

In LoZ and ALttP, they'd just walk around, doing a decent bit of damage if one touches you. In ALttP, they have quite a lot of stamina, too, though they can easily be destroyed with the Fire Rod.

In OoT and MM, the Gibdo is an enemy very similar to the ReDead, in movement, figure and moans. If it crosses eyes with Link, it will freeze him, jump on him and suck his energy. Since it's very hard to defeat a Gibdo with your sword, it's recommended to use a Fire Arrow or two. One way to get past a Gibdo unnoticed is to have the Gibdo Mask. Also, in OoT, the Sun's Song will freeze them for some time.

In The Minish Cap, the Gibdo was similar to its Ocarina of Time counterpart, except that it couldn't freeze you or be frozen.
