Overview

File:Deku Shield OoT.png

The Deku Shield is a simple wooden shield, said to be made from bark of the Great Deku Tree.[1] The Kokiri symbol painted on its surface resembles their spiritual stone, the Kokiri Emerald. Link must first purchase this shield in the Kokiri Shop found in the Kokiri Forest for 40 Rupees to convince Mido that he is worthy of his council with the Great Deku Tree.[2][3] After passing Mido, Link can purchase another shield from Business Scrubs in either the Lost Woods or Inside the Great Deku Tree for 50 rupees.[4] It's fairly functional, but its durability may be compromised by certain flame attacks; it instantly burns up if a Fire Keese touches Link or a Dodongo's breath harms him.[5] The Deku Shield can only be equipped while Link is in child form.[6]Although the Hylian Shield is available to Young Link, it is far too heavy and it hinders his movement into a sort of "turtle shield" system but the Deku Shield provides a more mobile defence and is well utilised by the Z-Targeting system.

The Deku Shield was in the beta version of Majora's Mask. It is unknown why it was removed.

Ocarina of Time Manga

In the Ocarina of Time manga, Link carves the Deku Shield out of the Deku Tree after its death.
