Leever

Legend of Zelda:

The Leevers made their first appearance in the original Legend of Zelda. They reside in desert and beach-like terrain. They will burrow out of the ground upon detecting movement and chase intruders for awhile until they burrow back into the earth to rest. Their are two varieties of Leever, red and blue, with the blue Leever being the strongest of the two.

The Adventure of Link:

Leevers reside in desert-like terrain as in the first game, but are semi-burrowed in the sand and can be done away with by thrusting down towards them with a weapon, such as a sword.

A Link to the Past:

In the third Zelda game, there is only one form of Leever, being green in color and they operate exactly the same as in the original Legend of Zelda game.

Link's Awakening, Oracle of Ages, and Oracle of Seasons:

The same Leever design and sprite is used for all of these games. They look a little different than their predecessors, (they look more like Spiked Beetles), but their attack person is the exact same as A Link to the Past and the Legend of Zelda.

Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask:

Twilight Princess:

Leevers are enemies that live in Gerudo Mesa and Arbiter's Grounds. They move at high speed underground, leaping out to attack Link, even when he is on solid rock. They only do a small amount of damage and can easily be dodged, and the versions in Arbiter's Grounds only sense Link when he gets close. They can be pulled out of the sand with the clawshot, leaving them temporarily stunned. They will also chase after bomblings, providing another way to safely dispose of them.
