A Loftbird is a breed of creatures featured in Skyward Sword. They are used by the citizens of Skyloft to fly around the different regions and are used during the annual Birdrider's Ceremony.
It is a custom in Skyloft for each person to have their own Loftbird. Link's Loftbird is a special, rare breed which causes him to stand out among the rest of the citizens of Skyloft. However, it is Link's Loftbird that allows him to access the mainland of the game.[1]
