Piranha Plants are Venus Flytrap-like plants that originated in the game Super Mario Bros. They usually pop out of pipes and try to eat Link. They make a brief cameo in Link's Awakening, like many other characters from other Nintendo games. In the side-scrolling view in one dungeon, Link has to avoid them by using Roc's Feather. In this area there are also Goombas, mushroom-like creatures that are common in the Mario franchise.
