In the time of The Wind Waker, the word 'Triforce' had been all but forgotten, mostly due to the [[Great Flood]] which created the [[Great Sea]] of Hyrule. Over time, changes in the Hylian tounge led to the mistranslation of the word "Triforce" into "Triumph Forks".

This has been proved by the fact that the Talking Fish in TWW mentions Triumph Forks on different Islands, which later turn out to be locations of the Pieces of the Triforce of Courage. The Japanese name for this is Tarai to Hosu which means "Bucket and Hose", whilst Triforce is Toraifosu. The Triumph Forks are mentioned again in ''[[The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap|The Minish Cap]]'', appearing as titles of books in the Library (The titles appear as Modern [[Hylian Language|Hylian]]. Translated it said Ta Ra I To Ho Su.) This suggests that ''The Minish Cap'' takes place after ''Ocarina of Time''.

It is also possible that the Fishman calls them the Triumph Forks because the makers of the game might not want to spoil anything by mentioning the Triforce to a new player who fed a fish. It would spoil one of the goals in the game.
