Pigs appear in The Wind Waker and behave similarly to Cuccos. They are generally peaceful and struggle in vain when picked up. They come in various colors - pink, black, and pink with black spots. The easiest way to pick up a pig is to sneak up to it. An alternative would be to chase it into the water and wait for it to come back to shore, where Link can pick it up before it starts running away. Pigs love to eat, and after consuming the bait you scatter, they might dig into the ground and release some rupees and items. If a pig is attacked too many times, it becomes the fourth color: red. It becomes angered and proceeds to relentlessly retaliate. An angry pig is one of the most dangerous beings Link can encounter on Windfall Island as its brothers will attack as well. Pigs will stop chasing Link if he enters a building or jumps into the water.

On Windfall Island, if Link climbs onto something where the pigs can't reach him, they will eventually give up and return to normal. After Link's quest takes him to Greatfish Isle and Windfall Island and then returning to Outset Island, he finds that one of the pigs has grown immensely. This pig can be provoked as well, and if Link is hit by it it will deal out three hearts of damage, more damage than Ganondorf can deal. If Link has the Power Bracelets, he can actually pick the pig up and carry it, although he walks at a much slower rate. It turns out that this pig can still swim as well, although it is possible to throw it behind a rock and pin it there.

Trivia

  • One of the pigs on Windfall Island is a rather gassy when Link picks it up, with little green clouds coming out of its rear.
  • If more than one pig is placed in Abe's pen at the start of the game there will only be one in there. If you go inside Abe's house, the owners of the pigs admits to eating the other pigs.[citation needed]
  • In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the pigs are seen as both part of a victory pose of Toon Link's and as a trophy.
