Link defeated Master Stalfos by hitting him with his sword, and then placing a bomb on him, and repeating until he left the room or was defeated.
Master Stalfos bears a resemblance to the Stalfos Warrior from A Link to the Past, and those from Twilight Princess, both in appearance and in the way Link defeated them.
