Located in the northern portion of the Great Hyrule Forest, the Thyphlo Ruins are a large set of Zonai Ruins.[3] They are surrounded by a murky Bottomless Bog and are shrouded in Darkness, making navigation impossible without a Light source. In addition to this, the Weather in the surrounding area is constantly overcast. The Ruins can be accessed from the Drenan Highlands by crossing the bridge on their western side.

When Link first enters the Thyphlo Ruins, he will hear the voice of Ketoh Wawai telling him to find an Ancient Shrine hidden in the darkness.[4][5] This starts the "Shrouded Shrine" Shrine Quest. Link can navigate the Ruins by following their unique Bird-shaped Torches, which will eventually lead him to a Pedestal featuring a Concave Slot. Nearby, he finds the Ruins' Hinox, which has an Ancient Orb hanging from its necklace. After taking the Ancient Orb and placing it in the Concave Slot, Ketoh Wawai Shrine will emerge from the ground.[6]

Eight separate Treasure Chests can be found within the Thyphlo Ruins. In total, these Chests contain three Ambers, three Opals, one Ruby, and one Star Fragment.

The Thyphlo Ruins reappear in Tears of the Kingdom. The dark fog present in Breath of the Wild has been cleared, making the Zonai architecture more visible. A puzzle can be solved here using the power of the four Sages, and rewards Link with the Dusk Claymore when solved. The ruins are now the landmark for the game's many Skyview Towers, namely Thyphlo Ruins Skyview Tower.

The Gleeok Den is their counterpart in the Depths.
