Moldworms only appear in Minish-sized areas; more specifically, the Minish Road at LonLon Ranch. They appear underground, pop up and crawl around, and will attempt to consume Link; if he is eaten, he will be deposited at the other end of the Moldworm, take 2 hearts of damage and exhibit a brown color on his skin and tunic, which gradually fades away. Link can use his Sword on a Moldworm's body segments, but only the head can be hit to deal damage. Link can use the Gust Jar to shoot air into a Moldworm's open mouth; it won't deal damage, but it will consume the air, but the eating process is much quicker than when Link is eaten. Sometimes, a Moldworm will go back underground, only to pop back out a few seconds afterward. This happens randomly, but there is a glitch where a Moldworm spawns near the exit of a Minish Road; it will pop out of the ground, but it will be invisible. Leaving the area and coming back fixes the glitch. Moldworms seem to have a symbiotic relationship with Pestos; when Link has been eaten and deposited by a Moldworm, any Pestos in the area are attracted towards him, moving more quickly and attacking more frequently than normal. If a Pesto touches Link while he is dirty, it will grab him, lift him into the air and gradually deal a quarter heart of damage until he's clean again.
Trivia
- Moldorms in Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword are known as Moldworms in Japanese.
- Sandworms, the giant worm-like enemies from Phantom Hourglass, are also called Moldworms in Japanese.
