Geozards typically lurk in areas containing pools of water, which they emerge from if Link steps into their territory. Geozards can also be found attacking ships in the World of the Ocean King. When they spot Link, they will either strike him with their swords, or spew fireballs at the young hero.
These sword-swinging enemies boast powerful armor and shields that are capable of deflecting any initial attacks. Unlike River Zora in previous games, they are not average enemies. They are mainly found guarding something of notable importance and in order for Link to continue his quest, they have to be defeated. If Link steps into their territory, they will jump out of the water, and make a threatening roar at him. Otherwise, they can also be found attacking ships. Link can use his boomerang to trace a path to the Geozard's vulnerable backside. If the boomerang is successful in hitting its backside, the Geozard will be stunned for a short period of time. This gives the young hero a chance to defeat the Zora Warrior with a number of sword strikes.

Geozards cannot normally be struck from the front while they are facing Link, as they defend from any attack with their large, wooden shields. In order to defeat them, Link must use his Boomerang to trace paths to the Geozards' vulnerable backsides. This temporarily stuns any Geozard hit with the Boomerang for a short period of time, giving Link a chance to bank around and strike them. Once the Hammer has been obtained, it can be used to quickly kill Geozards in two strikes.

Geozard Chief is a stronger, fiercer Geozard that appears rarely in Spirit Tracks. It is more powerful than the normal Geozards, as it is able to breathe a stream of flames at Link and it is able to jump huge distances at will. However, it shares the same weaknesses as weaker, normal Geozards. To defend against the flame spewing attack, Link can hide behind Phantom Zelda. Interestingly, whenever Zelda possesses a Wrecker Phantom, she can simply roll into these foes, and in three of her hits, they are defeated, without Link even having to touch them; this technique comes in handy in the final room in the last run-through of the Tower of Spirits, where three Geozard Chiefs threaten Link at the same time.

-
The proper way of dealing with Geozards is by hitting them in the back with the boomerang, which stuns them and gives Link enough time to attack with his sword. However, in Phantom Hourglass, after the young hero has obtained the Hammer, he can strike them twice with it for a quick kill. In Spirit Tracks, Zelda can distract it while possessing a Phantom, allowing Link to attack its back. After acquiring the Whip, Link can defeat Geozards by himself. He needs to use the Whip to snatch their shields and then attack them with his sword.
Geozards in ST are marginally different from their PH counterparts. Notably, they now possess metal shields, though they no longer have the ability to breathe fire. Zelda can distract Geozards while possessing a Phantom, allowing Link to attack their backsides. After acquiring the Whip, Link can defeat Geozards by himself, simply by snatching their shields away and then attacking them with his Sword. Without their shields, Phantom Zelda is also able to attack them with ease.

A special variant of Geozards, known as Geozard Chiefs, also appear in the Tower of Spirits. Like the Geozards from -, these Geozard Chiefs are capable of breathing fire.

Geozards are recurring Enemies in The Legend of Zelda series.[1]

Characteristics

Phantom Hourglass

Geozards typically lurk in areas containing pools of water, which they emerge from if Link steps into their territory. Geozards can also be found attacking ships in the World of the Ocean King. When they spot Link, they will either strike him with their swords, or spew fireballs at the young hero.

Spirit Tracks

Geozards in Spirit Tracks are marginally different from their Phantom Hourglass counterparts.

Like the Geozards from Phantom Hourglass, these Geozard Chiefs are capable of breathing fire.

Trivia

 • Geozards in the World of the Ocean King possess cephalic fins, resembling a mohawk. However, Geozards in New Hyrule lack these. The reason for this change is unknown, though Geozard Chiefs retain this fin.

Nomenclature

Geozards may derive their name from the ancient Greek prefix, Geo-, based on their amphibious tendencies, and a contraction of the word "lizard."
