Biography

Ocarina of Time

Main article: Saria

The Sage of the Forest is one of the Six Sages who are awakened by the Sacred Realm whenever evil threatens the world.[5] During the Era of Chaos, a former Sage of the Forest helped the Sage of Light Rauru create the Temple of Time.[6] After Link is released from his seven-year seal, Rauru tasks him with finding and awakening the remaining five Sages.[7]

After Link leaves the Chamber of Sages, Sheik appears and reveals that the Sage of the Forest is someone he knows and is waiting for him inside the Forest Temple.[8] Once Phantom Ganon has been defeated, Saria can be found in the Chamber of Sages, where she thanks him for helping her awaken as the Sage of the Forest.[3] She claims she always believed that Link would return, but she also reveals it is their destiny to live in separate worlds.[9] Saria promises to help him from the Chamber of Sages, and she gives him some of her power through the Forest Medallion.[4][10] As Link leaves, Saria states that they will always be friends.[11]

Saria uses her power as the Sage of the Forest to help the rest of the Six Sages build the Rainbow Bridge, allowing Link to enter Ganon's Castle.[12] She appears again in the Forest Room when Link destroys the Forest Barrier, telling him to hurry.[13] After Ganon has been defeated, the Sages gather their power to seal him in the Dark World.[14] During the Credits, Saria heads to Death Mountain with Darunia, Princess Ruto, Impa, and Nabooru. Saria sits on Darunia's shoulders as the group overlooks Hyrule.

Twilight Princess

The Sage of Forest is a member of the Six Sages, all of whom were tasked by the Golden Goddesses with watching over the Mirror of Twilight.[15] Alongside the other Sages, they were at the Failed Execution of Ganondorf. The Sage of Forest was a witness to Ganondorf killing the Sage of Water, and with the help of the remaining Sages, they were able to banish him to the Twilight Realm.

When Link and Midna arrive in the Mirror Chamber after passing through Arbiter's Grounds, the Sage of Forest and the other Sages appear before them.[16] With the Sage of Light and the Sage of Spirit, the Sage of Forest reveals that Zant used the power of Ganondorf was used to shatter the Mirror of Twilight.[17] Since he is not the true ruler of the Twili, however, he could not completely destroy the Mirror, and the Sages share where the Mirror Shards can be found.[18] They believe Link is strong enough to gather the Shards, but they warn him of a dangerous power inside the pieces.[19]

After Link has collected the three Mirror Shards and repaired the Mirror of Twilight, the Sages appear before him and Midna for a final time. They apologize for failing to stop Ganondorf, claiming that they overestimated their abilities.[20] They also hope that Midna will forgive them, acknowledging that she is the true ruler of the Twili.[21] They disappear again as Link and Midna leave for the Twilight Realm.
