Podoboo are recurring Enemies in The Legend of Zelda series.[1] They are directly based on the Lava Bubble enemies, also known as Podoboo, of the Mario series.

Characteristics

Link's Awakening

Podoboo appear in the lava-filled underground passages of Turtle Rock in Link's Awakening. They constantly jump out of pools of lava that Link must pass over by jumping with Roc's Feather and using the moving lifts. They attempt to knock Link into the lava below as they leap up.

Oracle of Seasons

Podoboo leap out of pools of lava in an attempt to knock Link into it in Oracle of Seasons. He must safely clear these lava pools by using Roc's Cape and the moving platforms. Podoboo leap out of lava pools in the side-scrolling tunnel of the Sword & Shield Maze. They are accompanied by Keese as further obstructions.

Oracle of Ages

Podoboo only appear during the battle with Head Thwomp in Oracle of Ages. The boss will sometimes release them out from the top of its head, more commonly when Link is above it while riding the spinning platforms.

Other Appearances

Cadence of Hyrule

Podoboos appear as enemies in Cadence of Hyrule where they move to the beat of the music. They can only be found in caves and dungeons where there is a hot atmosphere, such as the Gerudo Ruins. They tend to move on every music beat, moving along the walls of a cave or dungeon, or around objects like a Treasure Chest. Touching them deals damage to Cadence, Link, Yves, and Zelda.

Trivia

  • Large and small Podoboo from Four Swords appear in the code of The Minish Cap, however, they go unused.[2]
